ISO 9000: Leadership and involvement of people
Leadership (top management) establish the purpose and direction of the organization. They create the environment in which people become fully involved in achieving the organization's goals.
People are your organizations greatest resource. Their full involvement enables their skills to be used and developed for their benefit, as well as the organization's benefit. The ISO 9001 clauses that cover this aspect:

- Responsibility and authority 5.5.1
- Internal communication 5.5.3
The commitment and active involvement of top management are essential for the development and maintenance of an effective quality management system with the objective of ensuring customer satisfaction (8.2.1)
Top management must develop and communicate it's policy and objectives (5.3 & 5.4.1) to ensure that people are aware of their roles and responsibilities (5.5.1) and encourage open, two-way communication (5.5.3).
